    Project Description
This is a cooperative salmon & steelhead habitat restoration, enhancement, & bioengineering project between a private landowner (local orchardist Jon Small), Trout Unlimited (TU), WDFW, USFS, Chelan County Public Works Department & others aimed at helping endangered spring chinook salmon, endangered summer steelhead trout & other anadromous & resident salmonids (including threatened resident bull trout) within the lower Entiat River drainage. The Entiat River lies within the Upper Columbia River Evolutionary Significant Unit (ESU) & harbors 3 federally listed salmonid species including spring chinook salmon & summer steelhead (Endangered), & bull trout (Threatened. This project, designed & engineered by WDFW, will create approximately 0.4 mile of high quality, year-round off-channel salmon & steelhead rearing habitat on WDFW owned land adjacent the mainstem Entiat River at rivermile 6.5 just upstream of Roaring Creek. Lack of juvenile rearing habitat (overwintering) is the most limiting factor within the Entiat watershed. The objectives are to create 0.2 a. off-channel rearing pond, create a meandering 1000 ft. off-channel rearing channel exiting the pond & connecting to the Entiat R., & restore 1000 ft. of previously channelized & degraded in-channel rearing habitat & eroding banks through bioengineering & placement of instream rock & fish habitat structures. TU & WDFW will design & construct the project and WDFW will implement the monitoring plan.
