    Project Description
Puget Sound's Liberty Bay is a regional estuary important to rearing juvenile and migrating adult salmonids, forage fish, smelt and herring spawning, benthic fauna, plant communities, and estuarine habitat types. The cumulative impacts of non-point source pollution, land-use, and marine activities have resulted in degraded conditions. Marine samples collected in the bay and its tributaries have routinely violated state standards. In addition, eroding shoreline bank failures, uncontrolled storm water runoff, and upland development has contributed to degradation of the bay.

This project will reduce adverse effects of watershed development by focusing on revegetating disturbed upland sites adjacent to the nearshore. Invasive species will be removed prior to replanting.

Native plant restoration will educate local residents as to the benefits of natural shoreline protection and nearshore ecosystem conservation in a highly visible program with strong community support. Implementing these improvements will reduce pollution, aid recovery of intertidal primary juvenile salmon food items and restore nearshore attributes to vital fish habitat.
