    Project Description
This project is a continuation of an ongoing stream ecosystem restoration project for the lower reaches of Beaver Creek, near Manchester. The project area is on US Navy property at the Fleet Industrial Supply Center, Manchester Fuel Depot (MFD). In 2003 MFD completed the first phase of an extensive fish passage and habitat enhancement project for Beaver Creek as it runs through their property, referred to as Phase 1 of Beaver Creek Restoration. MFD completed the design work for Phase 2 of the restoration in January 2004 and began construction during the summer of 2004. Phase 2 goals are to provide natural stream meanders for the lower reaches of Beaver Creek based upon extensive analysis of the hydrology, geomorphology, topography, and historic condition of the Beaver Creek system. Additional funding is being sought for a third phase that would extend the restoration work to the estuary at Clam Bay. This project has been developed through cooperative efforts between the US Navy, the Suquamish Tribe, and the Mid-Puget Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group. Specifically, Phase 3 will involve upgrading a temporary culvert to a full span opening, removing the outlet fish ladder, reconstructing the greater estuarine habitat, and reestablishing the saltwater wedge into the historic upper estuary location. The project would result in a net gain of approximately 4.5 acres of estuary and riparian habitat and 1,200 feet of shoreline - both of which are vital resources for the area's threatened and endangered salmon species.
