    Project Description
The Chelan County Natural Resources Department (CCNRD) will implement the Entiat Instream Habitat Improvement Project. This project was identified in the "aquatic habitat recommendations" contained in the Entiat WRIA 46 Management Plan, specifically Entiat Ecosystem Diagnosis and Treatment Analysis (EDT), Alternative Management Scenario 1 and 5 (see attached Plan).

The treatments are to be constructed within two general locations within the mainstem Entiat River: the Milne restoration site and the Hanan-Detwiler restoration site. The treatments in the Entiat Management Plan recommend: 1) construction of cross vanes or other appropriate structures in the lower mainstem Entiat, and 2) installation of "log retention structures" in the upper middle Entiat. The proposed project includes the placement of five (5) midstream boulder clusters, seven (7) rock barbs and six (6) LWD structures on both sides of the river at the Milne restoration site. At the Hanan-Detwiler restoration site, the project includes the installation of a rock cross-vane, a sluice gate, excavation of two pools, the placement of logs and rootwads, and riparian plantings.

The cross vane installation in the lower Entiat is intended to increase the amount of pool habitat and LWD loading, reduce channel confinement, and restore a measure of riparian function. The log structure action in the upper middle Entiat is intended to increase LWD density, backwater pools, high flow refuge habitat, and tail-out habitat and thus habitat diversity. These measures are consistent with the Entiat WRIA 46 Management Plan "diagnoses" for Entiat spring and late-run chinook.
