Project Description
The Chelan-Douglas Land Trust seeks to acquire fee title to a 56 acre parcel (Tyee Confluence - NCNB) from a willing landowner at River Mile 19.7 -20.2 of the Entiat River, a tributary of the Columbia River. It is a Category 1 Watershed, designated as Key Watershed in the Northwest Forest Plan, and “is a critical habitat for spring Chinook salmon, steelhead and bulltrout” (Biological Strategy 2003). This reach (2C) has high complexity in an unconfined floodplain (Entiat Tributary Assessment, BOR Jan, 2009). The Stillwaters from RM 16-25 is first priority for land protection and acquisition, with “large pristine areas would be the highest priority.” (UCRTT, Feb. 2007)
The property includes the alluvial fan of Tyee Creek, which splits as it flows to the river, and feeds a network of off-channel habitat. The property includes 3,380 feet of riverbank, 1,690 feet on each side. According to the Bureau of Reclamation mapping, 78% of the site is within the floodplain, all of the channel migration zone on river right lies entirely within this property, and the property has natural accumulations of large woody debris (BOR 2009).
The project is amended to include SRFB grant #13-1288, funded December 4, 2013, to acquire four additional properties - Bockhoven North (16.51 acres), Crone (11.87 acres), Price (24.1 acres) and Bockhoven South (24.83 acres). These high priority habitat parcels are located in the Entiat Stillwaters-Gray Reach.
The project scope is amended to add the 6.5 acre Beutler property, as replacement habitat lands, for the 4 acres of Tyee Confluence (NCNB) upland acres that have been sold for private development. The SRFB deed of right will be released from said 4 acres, thus bringing the total habitat area on that property to 52 acres. The scope change/conversion of previously acquired SRFB lands was approved by RCO Director Kaleen Cottingham September 29, 2016.
The total targeted habitat area is 135.81 acres.
