    Project Description
The Gorst Creek project is a restoration project that will have a direct benefit to Steelhead, Chinook and Coho salmon. Due to channelization, road encroachment and fragmentation of the riparian corridor, Gorst has lost a lot of its quality spawning habitat. This grant will finish the project permitting submission, make any necessary edits to designs and construct a project that will restore riparian and in-stream habitat of 1200 linear feet of creek. The project is at lat/long 47.528082/-122.707479 and just downstream of Jarstad Park on W. Belfair Valley Road. Both spawning and rearing habitat will be created, and current spawning habitat will be protected. There is little rearing habitat, but what is present will be protected.
The project will as designed includes bioengineered bank stabilization and LWD installation, riparian plantings to compliment the already existing site conditions, and sloping back banks where possible to initiate re-connection with the already existing floodplain. Root wads will be strategically placed to protect high erosion areas and create fish rearing habitat and places of refuge. Root wads and other LWD will also be used to create much needed stream complexities by producing points of decreased water velocity and creating pools and eddies (see uploaded design document).
This project is on the lead entity 3 Year Work Plan implementation list and has had SRFB review.
