Bainbridge Island Land Trust intends to complete a watershed scale assessment of Springbrook Creek to identify and develop conceptual designs for future salmon habitat improvements and/or protection projects. This will include restoration opportunities such as removing fish passage barriers and enhancing riparian habitats, evaluating the possibility of returning the stream to its historical path, and protecting intact fish habitat through acquisition or conservation easements. The evaluation of existing watershed and stream data, collection of new stream data, and a geomorphic and hydrologic assessment will help guide project partners in understanding the dynamics of the stream. Compiled information will lead to landowner outreach efforts to identify five restoration and/or protection opportunities to be implemented in the future. Conceptual designs for restoration projects will be produced. Springbrook Creek is situated on the west side of Bainbridge Island and drains into Fletcher Bay. Springbrook Creek is a historical steelhead stream and one of the most productive salmonid streams on Bainbridge Island supporting populations of cutthroat trout, coho, and chum. The West Central LIO has identified the Springbrook Creek project as a "near term action" for the Puget Sound Partnership Action Agenda.
