Wild Fish Conservancy (WFC) will groundtruth, and correct water type classifications, in a minimum of six watersheds (approx. 90 mi) that drain the Gig Harbor Peninsula - including four with Critical Habitat for Puget Sound Steelhead (NOAA 2016) - using state-established protocols. Watersheds include Purdy, Crescent, North, McCormick, Goodnough, and Artondale Creeks. The assessment will provide data to ensure informed and responsible management of these watersheds. Additionally, WFC will fill critical data gaps on ESA-listed fish species composition and distribution via field observations and use of environmental DNA (eDNA) in watersheds prioritized with assistance from the West Sound Lead Entity Technical Advisory Group. WFC will identify and describe the five highest priority habitat restoration projects encountered during the assessment, and work with project sponsors to develop and implement identified projects in subsequent SRFB rounds. WFC will also provide the water typing results in an interactive web map, and coordinate with cities and counties to ensure the updated fish distribution information is incorporated in their planning processes.
