                    | Great Peninsula Conservancy will use this grant to acquire a permanent conservation easement on approximately 21 acres of wetland and riparian habitat along the lower reaches of Minter Creek. The property is located in Gig Harbor, Pierce County, off of 118th Ave NW, just south of the border with Kitsap County. This conservation easement will be focused on protecting the riparian and wetland habitat on the property, and eliminating the potential for development, subdivision, mining, and other activities detrimental to the conservation values of the easement area. The protection of this area will safeguard approximately 1,300 feet of main-stem Minter Creek, which is utilized by coho, cutthroat, and Endangered Species Act listed Puget Sound steelhead. It will also protect around 1,800 feet of two seep-fed tributaries to Minter Creek. Lower reaches of Minter Creek also support Chinook, chum, and pink salmon. This conservation easement is directly adjacent to 510 acres owned by Pierce County Public Works, WA Department of Natural Resources, and Key Peninsula Metropolitan Park District, which includes the popular 360 Trails and Gateway Park. The easement will provide a habitat buffer around the park, and protect water quality in Minter Creek. |
